Hayward Pool Filters

This collection holds 32 Hayward pool filters: 13 sand filters, 11 cartridge filters, and 8 D.E. filters, built for 28 inground pool models and 4 commercial models. It spans Hayward's Star-Clear Plus and SwimClear cartridge lines, ProGrid vertical grid D.E. units, Pro Series side-mount sand filters, and HCF Series commercial cartridge and fiberglass sand tanks.

The first decision is filter type. Sand filters, like the Pro Series 24" and 31" side-mount units, use a simple valve system (VariFlo or slide valve) and require less handling per cleaning cycle, but their filtration area is smaller — as low as 3.14 sq ft on the S244S. Cartridge filters, such as the Star-Clear Plus and SwimClear models, offer larger filtration areas (from 90 sq ft up to 525 sq ft on the C5030) without backwashing, at the cost of periodically removing and rinsing elements. D.E. filters, including the ProGrid line, deliver the finest filtration among the three types and range from 36 to 60 sq ft in this sample. For commercial applications, the HCF Series scales up in both cartridge (700 sq ft, NSF and ANSI Standard 50 certified) and sand (fiberglass tank, 433 GPM max flow rate) configurations.

Within each type, models differ mainly by filtration area, tank material, and clearance needs. Cartridge filters vary from the compact 90 sq ft Star-Clear Plus (26 lb, 30 in tall) to the 700 sq ft HCF7030C commercial unit (107 lb, needing 28 in of vertical clearance). D.E. filters move from the 36 sq ft ProGrid DE3620 to the 60 sq ft DE6020, both sharing a 2-year warranty and thermoplastic tank construction. Sand filters range from the 24 in Pro Series unit for smaller inground applications to the 42 in HCF342C fiberglass commercial tank rated for 433 GPM, which carries a 5-year parts warranty and 1-year labor warranty separately from the equipment itself.
