The Pentair THS Series 42" × 72" Horizontal Sand Filter is one of the highest-capacity commercial sand filters available — delivering up to 535 GPM through 19.7 sq ft of filtration area in a horizontal tank configuration that minimizes equipment room height requirements. The unique composite laminate shell eliminates winding, and Paracote water-based coating provides long-lasting surface protection. Front manway placement reduces overall footprint for easier equipment room layout.
NSF/ANSI Standard 50 approved from 5–20 GPM per sq ft. Six-inch flanged connections. Optional manual, semi-automatic, and automatic backwash systems available. Requires 2,100 lb of sand and 500 lb of pea gravel (not included). 2-year warranty.

Why choose a horizontal tank over a vertical tank at this size?
At 42-inch diameter and 535 GPM capacity, a vertical tank would stand roughly 7–8 feet tall — requiring significant ceiling clearance in the equipment room. The horizontal THS design keeps the height to the tank diameter (42 inches) while using floor length instead, making it the practical choice when ceiling height is limited or when a lower center of gravity is preferred for the installation.
