The Pentair Clean and Clear® Plus 520 Sq Ft Cartridge Filter is the largest model in the Clean and Clear Plus lineup — delivering maximum cartridge filtration capacity with no backwashing required. Four polyester cartridge elements totaling 520 sq ft handle up to 150 GPM in the tallest tank in the series. To clean, simply remove the cartridges and rinse with a garden hose.

How does the 520 sq ft model compare to the 420 sq ft CCP420?
Both are Clean and Clear Plus four-cartridge filters rated for 150 GPM. The CCP520 has 100 sq ft more filter area — it holds more dirt before needing cleaning, extending the interval between service visits. It is also taller (requires 74 in vertical clearance vs. 68 in for the CCP420) and weighs slightly more. Choose the 520 when maximum dirt capacity and the longest possible cleaning intervals are the priority.
How often do the cartridges need cleaning?
Clean when the pressure gauge reads 8–10 PSI above the clean starting pressure. With 520 sq ft of area, this filter can go longer between cleanings than smaller models under the same conditions. Simply remove the four cartridges and rinse with a garden hose.
Does this require backwashing?
No. Cartridge filters do not require backwashing. Remove the cartridges and rinse with a garden hose. This saves significant water compared to sand or DE filter backwash cycles.
