What is the difference between the ProGrid 36 (DE3620) and the ProGrid 48 (DE4820)?
Both are Hayward ProGrid vertical grid D.E. filters with identical features and 2-year warranties. The DE3620 has 36 sq ft of filter area vs. 48 sq ft for the DE4820, making it suited for smaller pools or lower bather loads where 48 sq ft would be oversized. The DE4820 is 9 lb heavier and ships slightly taller.
How much D.E. powder does this filter require?
The ProGrid DE3620 (36 sq ft) typically requires approximately 5.4 lb of D.E. powder after backwashing or reassembly. Always follow the specific charge amount in the owner's manual and use pool-grade diatomaceous earth.
Does this filter require backwashing?
Yes. D.E. filters are backwashed to clean the grids when the pressure rises 8–10 PSI above the starting pressure. After backwashing, fresh D.E. powder must be added through the skimmer. Annual teardown and thorough grid cleaning is also recommended.
