What makes the Perflex different from a standard D.E. filter?
A traditional D.E. filter uses flat or curved grids that must be backwashed to clean — wasting water and D.E. — and periodically torn down for thorough cleaning. The Perflex uses 120 Dacron Flex-Tubes and a bump handle: bumping the handle causes the tubes to flex and shed the D.E./dirt cake, which then falls to a mixing chamber and recoats the tubes with a fresh filtering surface. No backwashing, no water waste, and less frequent full teardowns.
How often does the Perflex need to be bumped?
Bump the handle when the pressure gauge reads 8–10 PSI above the clean starting pressure. After bumping, the pressure should return to near the clean starting level. When bumping no longer restores pressure, it's time for a full cleaning — typically once or twice per season under normal conditions.
How much D.E. powder does this filter require?
The Perflex EC65A (27 sq ft) typically requires approximately 3 lb of D.E. powder at initial charge or after a full cleaning. Because the Perflex reuses D.E. rather than discharging it during bumping, D.E. consumption is lower than with backwashing filters.
