Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the CAT 1000 described as "the perfect enhancement for salt-chlorine systems"?
Salt chlorine generators produce chlorine through electrolysis, which tends to drive pool pH upward over time. Without automatic pH control, operators must manually add acid regularly to keep pH in the 7.2–7.6 range. The CAT 1000 automates this acid dosing entirely — keeping pH stable without manual intervention, protecting the salt cell, and improving sanitizer effectiveness.
Does this control ORP/sanitizer as well as pH?
No — the CAT 1000 is a pH-only controller. It monitors and controls pH via acid dosing but does not monitor or control ORP (sanitizer levels). For combined pH and ORP control, see the CAT 2000 or CAT 4000 series. The CAT 1000 is designed specifically for installations where sanitizer is managed separately (e.g., via a salt generator) and only pH automation is needed.
What does the diagnostic self-test do?
The CAT 1000's diagnostic self-test checks the controller's internal circuits and sensor connections at startup — quickly identifying faults and reducing troubleshooting time when the system doesn't behave as expected.
