Why do salt pools need pH control?
Salt chlorine generators produce chlorine through electrolysis, which tends to drive pool pH upward over time. Without pH correction, pH rises above the ideal 7.2–7.6 range, reducing chlorine effectiveness and potentially causing scale on the salt cell and pool surfaces. The IntellipH automatically adds muriatic acid to counteract this rise — keeping pH stable and maximizing IntelliChlor performance.
Does IntellipH work without IntelliChlor?
IntellipH can be powered by an IntelliChlor salt generator, a Pentair Power Center, or EasyTouch®/IntelliTouch® automation systems. It doesn't require IntelliChlor specifically, but it's designed as the ideal complement to IntelliChlor for complete automated water chemistry management.
What is muriatic acid and is it safe?
Muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid) is the standard chemical used to lower pool pH.
